About Us
Our Story
Biotika a.s. (joint-stock company) is a Slovak biotechnology company and a manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients with more than 70 years of tradition.
Biotika was founded in 1953 as a new manufacturer of penicillin in the former Czechoslovakia targeting to meet the needs of both the domestic and foreign markets. Biotika was originally a part of the SPOFA Group, which consolidated all pharmaceutical companies in the former Czechoslovakia.
Production of Penicillin G began in 1956, followed by Penicillin V two years later. The launch of the penicillin production also triggered the Biotika’s own R&D centre.
In 1992, the state-owned company Biotika was transformed into Biotika a.s., a joint-stock company listed on the Bratislava Stock Exchange. Today, we manufacture Phenoxymethylpenicillin Potassium and Polymyxin B Sulfate.
We also manufacture other substances for our contract partners, such as Gramicidin S Hydrochloride. Additionally, Biotika has a deep knowledge in fermentation, isolation, and the transfer of biotechnological production methods from laboratory scale to commercial scale, as well as on the optimization of commercial biotechnological production providing a maximum production value for a customer.
Biotika is established as a reliable global manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients for both human and veterinary use, as well as of other substances including amino acids, dyes, food and feed additives.
