About the company
Our story
Biotika is a Slovak biotechnology company and manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients with over 70 years of tradition. It was founded in 1953 as a new producer of penicillin in the territory of the then Czechoslovakia in order to meet the needs of the domestic and foreign market. From its foundation until 1990, Biotika was part of the SPOFA concern, which united all pharmaceutical companies in the then Czechoslovakia.
Production of penicillin G began in 1956 and penicillin V two years later. The beginning of the production of penicillins is also connected with the beginning of the activity of the own research and development workplace. In 1992, the state-owned enterprise Biotika was transformed in the process of privatisation into the joint-stock company Biotika listed on the Bratislava Stock Exchange. Currently, we produce phenoxymethylpenicillin potassium salt and polymyxin B sulphate.
We are also a manufacturer of other substances for our contractors, such as gramicidin S hydrochloride. We also focus on fermentation, isolation and transfer of biotechnology production methods from laboratory scale to commercial scale and optimization of commercial biotechnology production with a focus on increasing yield.
In the Slovak and foreign markets, we are known as a reliable manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients for human and veterinary purposes, as well as other substances, including amino acids, dyes, food and feed additives.
